STUDIO SALE AND FUNDRAISER

Want some cheap art? Wanna support a good idea? Now's yer chance!

This summer I am going on a long road trip with my little boy to have adventures all the way across the prairies, through the desert and up the west coast! I'm also continuing research on the road for a new graphic novel. For this dream to come true, I need to buy a camper van!

Me and The Kid are moving house at the end of January.
...
So, for one day only, SUNDAY JANUARY 30, I am going to turn my old empty apartment into a gallery and attempt to sell a lot of my work in a massive fundraiser for the van.

There will be:
>>Lots and lots of original drawings from Sword of My Mouth, Unspent Love, and older projects.
>>Seriously cheap screenprinted folios of some of the chapters from Unspent Love
>>Unspent Love, the handbound multiple
>>Sword of My Mouth
>>Older bookworks of which I have a very few loose copies leftover
>>Some drawings by Willy (The Kid)
>>T shirts by Willy (The Kid)
>>Other stuff

>>Maybe some rummage too like wool and clothes!

ALL THIS WILL BE SO INEXPENSIVE IT WILL BLOW YOUR SOCKS OFF

There'll be some food and drinks too if you just want to stop by and hang out. Contributions of food and drink welcomed.

I hope you can be there!

238 SAINT CLARENS AVE, TORONTO
SUNDAY 30 JANUARY, 1PM TO 8PM

Recommended for a perfect night: Listen to loud music. Drink vodka-tonics (vodkas-tonic?). Draw one of your favourite people.

Almost there

Thanks to the Nick Novak Scholarship in 2010, Unspent Love, Volume One is on its way to completion. Due November 4, along with an installation of artwork from the series, at Open Studio.

Incidentally, Tara Cooper, modeling in the image above, is the 2011 Nick Novak Scholar! Toot toot!

Blood and Thunder

Oh, hello. I started a little companion blog to chronicle a road trip. It's over here: http://bloodandblunder.tumblr.com/

On it, with much doubt, I am going to write, post photos, speak and sing.

Talk of loneliness in quiet voices

Another chapter of Unspent Love is up at Top Shelf. I'm so touched by Leigh's assessment, "With this series, Shannon is quietly stitching together a tapestry of human relationships that's devastating in its insight. In this installment, misheard lyrics mean more than the originals."

Thank you, Leigh.

BTW, the song is Lakes of Canada by The Innocence Mission. My all-time favourite band. I even love them more than Bruce Cockburn, more than Mike Doughty. I even love them more than John K Sampson.

you are perfect and i love you

New strip up at Top Shelf.
Thank you stef lenk, for lending me your face.

Finally

I've been planning this website for a long while and finally finished it last night. James Gauvreau, one of the world's most beautiful people, did most of the work.

Internet, meet playingdoctor.ca

The Toronto Arts Council helped this come together.

Unspent (in other words, buried)

What a satisfying, productive period the summer has been so far (a summer from work for me, though not by the calendar). Current projects are shaping up pretty well, so it looks like I am going to head out for westerly parts through the month of August afterall. I am squirrelly for a break from this city!!

Unspent Love, Chapter 11 is done. This one is terrifyingly sad for me. Gulp.

Two pages excerpted above. Click images for bigger versions.

Not sure when this will appear online at Top Shelf.

28 on the 28th

One of my favourite people just got a liiiittle bit older.

I miss you, Swaters

I miss you, stef lenk

New drawings in progress for Unspent Love. Four chapters on the go at once!

Let me draw your FACE (book)

Sword of my Mouth is finally here! Available already in most comics shops! The Toronto launch party is coming up on May 6th, at 7pm, at Tequila Bookworm (512 Queen street West at Portland).

To promote the launch, I am offering to draw your facebook profile pic. Isn't that a cute one above? And below-- look at these charming little faces.

To participate, just send a hi-res Jpeg to shannon AT shannongerard DOT org. I'll make a drawing of it, then you post it as your profile avatar with a link to info about the party or book.

That info can be found on facebook HERE.

Or on the "other internet," The Internet, here:
