Curses!
A couple weeks ago (I'm behind), scifi blog, io9 posted an article about Sword of My Mouth.
The article is great. The comments are...recurring. So many people hate my handwriting! What do you think? Seriously? If it bothers you, if it's "effing illegible," if you wish I'd change it...I'd really like to hear some honest feedback from friends. What would you change? What features do you find most difficult about it?
It's hard to read the comments on io9 and not hear them in the voice of Comic Book Guy, so some home-brewed feedback would be amazing.
For comparison, here are two pages from the book. Page 1 from very early on in the drawing process and page 64, finished this week. As ever, clicking the images will enlarge them.

I think you're incredibly talented and I have a couple of your zines - I think your writing is cute and unique. Perhaps it's easier to read (for those who complain) in larger size and on a book page? Pfff, keep doing your thing!
I've been following your stuff for years and I think your handwriting is perfectly imperfect which is why it works so well with your illustrations. Don't change anything. Screw the haters.
P.S. Is that Eric Mathew in the vest and skeleton hands?
P.P.S. I just bought your DVD zine from the soon-to-be-closed pages. I'm looking forward to watching it this weekend!
i liked and could read your handwriting before i even knew you. and now we are friends! i think these two things are related.
if you are doubting the attractiveness of your work in the face of the hissing masses, please consider the popularity of comic sans.
the minority is always right.
I am big fan of hand-written text in general but yours has always been one of my favourites. I think it also a defining and characteristic aspect of your comics. Don't listen to them, your texts are awesome!
Thanks for your encouraging comments! oh yeah-- Comic Sans!
jen: Yes, that is Eric Mathew! So evil! What did you think of the dvd zine? Must have been Novel Amusements. I just offered that drawing for the cover, but that is the extent of my involvement. Some of the short on the dvd are great though, eh?
